What would a selection of our favorite bars be without a classic protein bar to round it out?

Time required for preparation: twenty minutes

Cooking time: 50 minutes

  • 1 1/2 cup (375ml) of organic buckwheat flour
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of tapioca flour
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of organic coconut flour
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of organic raw cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp. (10ml) of baking powder
  •  pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cup (375ml) of organic Adzuki beans (I used frozen ones that I thawed) + 6tbsp of water
  • 2 tbsp. (30 ml) of organic coconut oil
  • 1 ripe organic banana
  • 2 cup (500ml) of almond milk
  • 1 tsp. (5ml) of organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. (5ml) of vanilla
  • 3 tbsp. (45ml) of organic agave syrup
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of organic sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup (62.5ml) of chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of organic walnuts
  • 1 cup (250ml) of organic chocolate chips
  1. Preheat your oven to 375º
  2. In a small food processor, put your Adzuki beans, the water and pulse until you get a puree. If you need more water, you can add a bit, but it shouldn’t be too liquid.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the buckwheat flour, the tapioca flour, the coconut flour, the baking powder and the salt.
  4. In another bowl, mix the Adzuki bean puree, the coconut oil, the banana, the almond milk, the apple cider vinegar, the vanilla and the agave syrup together.
  5. Gradually add in the flour mix, the sunflower seeds, the chia seeds, the walnuts and the chocolate chips. Combine until you get a smooth texture.
  6. Cover a 9″x13″ oven dish with parchment paper and spread the dough evenly. Cook for 50 minutes.
  7. When you remove it from the oven, let it cool for 5 minute before transferring on a wire rack.

What do our readers say about this recipe?

This is my go-to dish since it is so delicious. I use a cup of all different kinds of vegetables and fruits, but I use chocolate chips for the walnuts, and I bake it in a 9×5 pan (i like thicker bars). I give them one hour of cooking time.

I eat this in the morning instead of breakfast, or sometimes just as a snack. These are a favorite among all members of my family.

I prepare them on a weekly basis on Sunday evening in order to bring them with me to work throughout the week. And everyone in the office really enjoys snacking on something light and nutritious.

Instead of using dates that had been soaked overnight or dates that had been soaked in boiling water for ten minutes, I used a small bag of dry dates.

These came out looking absolutely amazing! Even though I had to use coconut water in place of a few of the milks, the dish was still quite successful. For breakfast, I smeared this on some bread, and it instantly elevated the flavor to a whole new level.

This is extremely wonderful to eat! When I prepared them for the first time, and numerous times after that, I used buckwheat flour. But, I found that the flavor was improved when I switched to using brown rice flour. In general, I would have to say that this is one of my favorite bars on this page.

This was such a fun dish to make! That was a lot of fun to create, and chocolate is something that almost no one can refuse (well unless you are allergic). Sadly, gluten-free baked products do not keep well in my home, so they are often consumed within a few minutes of being made.

2 more cups of oats, and then I cooked the mixture for fifty-five minutes. Everything worked out beautifully! I’ve now made this recipe twice, and both times the results were delicious, if a little crumbly for a bar. The second time, I made an addition of 1.
